Description
Exforge HCT 5/160mg contains a combination of Amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker; Valsartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker and Hydrochlorothiazide, a Thiazide Diuretic. These drugs combine to relax blood vessels, prevent excess salt absorption and thus, lead to a decrease in blood pressure. Exforge HCT is usually given after other anti hypertensives have been tried without success. Exforge HCT should not be taken by people with a sulfa allergy, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.
Exforge HCT should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It can also be taken with or without food. Due to the diuretic effects of hydrochlorothiazide, people using Exforge HCT can become dehydrated easily so constant hydration is important. It is not advisable to drink alcohol while on Exforge HCT. Common side effects include; low serum potassium levels (hypokalemia), dizziness and swelling.
