Anusol-HC Suppository contains 25 mg hydrocortisone acetate, a corticosteroid that works by reducing inflammation, itching, swelling, and irritation in the rectal area. It is commonly prescribed for conditions such as hemorrhoids, proctitis, and ulcerative colitis affecting the rectum.
The suppository is inserted rectally, usually 2–3 times daily for up to two weeks, or as directed by a healthcare provider. To use, unwrap the suppository, moisten the tip if needed, lie on your left side with knees bent, insert pointed end first, and remain lying for a few minutes. Avoid bowel movement for at least 1 hour after insertion.
Possible side effects include local burning, itching, irritation, dryness, hypopigmentation, allergic reactions, and risk of secondary infections. It should be used under medical supervision, especially for prolonged periods.
